The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) unites seven telecommunications standard development organizations (“Organizational Partners”): Association of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB, Japan), Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS, USA), China Communications Standards Association (CCSA), European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), Telecommunications Standards Development Society, India (TSDSI), Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA, South Korea) and Telecommunication Technology Committee (TTC, Japan). 3GPP provides their members with a stable environment to produce the Reports and Specifications that define 3GPP technologies.
The project covers cellular telecommunications network technologies, including radio access, the core transport network, and service capabilities - including work on codecs, security, quality of service - and thus provides complete system specifications. The specifications also provide hooks for non-radio access to the core network, and for interworking with Wi-Fi networks.
3GPP specifications and studies are contribution-driven, by member companies, in Working Groups and at the Technical Specification Group level. The Four Technical Specification Groups (TSG) in 3GPP are: Radio Access Networks (RAN), Service & Systems Aspects (SA), Core Network & Terminals (CT) and GSM EDGE Radio Access Networks (GERAN). The Working Groups, within the TSGs, meet regularly and come together for their quarterly TSG Plenary meeting, where their work is presented for information, discussion and approval.

The 5G Infrastructure Public Private Partnership, in short 5G PPP, has been initiated by the EU Commission and industry manufacturers, telecommunications operators, service providers, SMEs and researchers.  The 5G PPP will deliver solutions, architectures, technologies and standards for the ubiquitous next generation communication infrastructures of the coming decade.

The challenge for the 5G Public Private Partnership (5G PPP) is to secure Europe’s leadership in the particular areas where Europe is strong or where there is potential for creating new markets such as smart cities, e-health, intelligent transport, education or entertainment & media. The 5G PPP initiative will reinforce the European industry to successfully compete on global markets and open new innovation opportunities. It will “open a platform that helps us reach our common goal to maintain and strengthen the global technological lead”

GSA (Global mobile Suppliers Association) represents leading GSM, 3G/HSPA and 4G/LTE suppliers worldwide.  Our reports and information papers deliver key facts and stats, explain market developments, trends and opportunities, and are widely referenced across the industry. We show how international technology standards and alignment of spectrum band choices for mobile network deployments deliver the largest economies of scale and the widest choice of terminals at lowest cost for users. Other activities include seminars, briefings, case studies, providing support to campaigns, webinars, and speaking at selected industry events. GSA monitors and regularly provides updates on LTE network deployments and launches worldwide, regulatory developments including spectrum, and the status of the devices ecosystem. These reports in particular are highly anticipated and closely followed by our global audience including over 68,000 registered website users. GSA is a Market Representation Partner in 3GPP and co-operates with other key organizations including ETSI, GSM Association, and the ITU.
