7th International Forum “Broadband – Infrastructure for Digital Economy 2017”, organized by ComNews in Moscow on November 23-24, had a big success. More than 200 delegates attended the event on behalf of fixed, mobile and satellite operators, regulatory agencies and other government organizations, international and national industry associations and business unions, ICT departments of major corporations from a variety of vertical markets, developers and vendors of telecom equipment, IT solutions and digital services, along with system integrators, content providers, industry experts and consultants, business and industry media.
The forum was endorsed by GSA Global mobile Suppliers Association, National Association of TV and Radio Broadcasters of Russia, International Academy of Communications (IAC), IoT Association, IT Directors Club, Association of Telecommunication Companies and LTE Union.

The forum was kicked off by a keynote speech from Deputy Minister of Communications and Mass Media Dmitry Alkhazov.
The plenary session of the forum was dedicated to technological foundations of digital economy in Russia and around the globe. Deputy Minister of Government Control, IT and Communications of Moscow region Vyacheslav Metelev told the gathering about the principal measures of government support aimed to help expansion of broadband infrastructure in the region. The supervisor of the task team “Communications and IT” at the Expert Council of the Russian Government Irina Levova reported about the activities, plans and initiatives brought forward by her team.
The first session, moderated by President of the ASTRA Association Sergey Makedonsky, was dedicated to innovations in broadband architecture, technologies and business models. Alexander Trokhin, IT and Equipment Director of Moscow City Telephone Network (MGTS) spoke about pilot projects aimed to test technologies, which will lay the foundation of future networks. General Director of T8 Vladimir Treschikov spoke about the development of coherent 100G+ networks using protected domestic solutions. A report entitled “Municipal WiFi project in Moscow – first step towards SmartCity” was presented by Director for New Technologies of Prestige-Internet (Enforta) Sergey Shirokov. Board Chairman of ROTEC Dmitry Miroshnikov looked into affordable broadband and IoT solutions, which help to bring digital economy into reality. NetByNet B2C Business Development Director Andrey Egorov spoke about public WiFi services in municipal transport.
Speakers of the next session discussed transformation of business models and new opportunities for operators in digital reality. General Director of Intertax Kasimir Voytkevich spoke about the penetration of ICT services into utilities sector, and Ciena’s senior systems engineer Alexander Salivon presented a solution for predictive analysis – Blue Planet Analytics, that allows to detect problems online before they make a major impact on your business. The report made by Business Development Director and Managing Partner of Lifestream (“Smotreshka”) Zharkyn Tursynov was dedicated to TV platforms as a service. Konstantin Kokush, General Director of SevStar entitled his presentation “Everything as a service – best practices and challenges”. SUPERTEL’s Director for Telecom Projects Konstantin Lukin looked into Russian-made telecommunication equipment for carrier networks as a fundament of broadband services. General Director of RDP.RU Sergey Nikulin presented a report “EcoDPI Teracluster – deep traffic analysis in operator networks”. Sergey Kiselev, Development Project Manager in MSK-IX, entitled his report: “From peering Internet networks to comprehensive outsourcing of IT and telecom infrastructure”.
The discussion around the future of the market continued at the round table “Trends and vision of digital economy on the way towards long-term strategy”. Panelists included: Director for New Product Development of ROTEC Denis Batretdinov; Maxim Zharenov, project development and acceleration director of the Skolkovo Foundation's advanced manufacturing, nuclear and space technologies cluster; Head of Oil&Gas Practice at Gartner RUS Yaroslav Matveev; Business Development Director of ADV Consulting Petr Mitrofanov; Executive Director of Deloitte’s Institute of Applied Analysis Alexey Minin; Deputy Director – Executive Director of Smolny ATS Marina Nechay and Elvira Gilmanova from BARS Group.
The first day of the forum ended with prize-giving ceremony for market leaders - COMNEWS AWARDS. For more information about winners. The second day of the forum started with a session entitled “Digital transformation of operating model as a new stage of development for telecommunication operators” and moderated by Deputy Director of IoT Market Association Gleb Pyzhov. MegaFon’s Chief for Relations with Executive Bodies Nikita Danilov spoke about Personal identifier in the digital space: digital signature, INN/SNILS or mobile number. MTS’ Project Manager Egor Afanasyev looked into the needs and the first examples of rolling out IoT/industrial IoT (IIoT) in different industries. Ilya Gudenko, Head of Marketing and Sales Department at TransTeleCom, dedicated his report to operator partnerships amid increasing competition and regulatory pressure. ROTEC’s Commercial Director Dmitry Vantsev and Business Development Director Fuel & Energy Sergey Ledin presented an integrated solution for resource consumption management in the B2B and B2C markets. SMARTS’ Chairman of the Board Gennady Kiryushin dedicated his report to new generation protected telecom infrastructure.
The next session, moderated by expert of the organizing committee of Russian Cloud Computing Professional Association (RCCPA) Anton Salov, was dedicated to tools of big data analysis serving to improve profitability and optimize costs. Konstantin Savchuk, Co-Founder of Predictive Technologies, offered a report on “Predictive analysis and Big Data techniques for customer value management: Practical implementation by fixed operators. General Director of Cloudhill Systems Evgeny Ravich spoke about safety in the clouds. Elena Naumchik, Founder of Klik Association, also touched upon the issues of using Big Data for Customer Value Management.
The forum ended with a round table “Everything as a service – New opportunities for operators and IT companies in the digital economy age”, which brought together CMO of Moscow City Telephone Network (MGTS) Maxim Garusev, Deputy General Director for Technology of Virgin Connect Vladimir Valkovich, General Director of SevStar Konstantin Kokush, Head of IT Department of Almazov National Medical Research Centre Dmitry Kurapeev, General Director of Embedded Systems Rus Dmitry Sass, Technical evangelist of Voximplant Grigory Petrov.
Forum participants praised excellent organization of the event, practical focus of the content, and high professional level of the audience.
