Airbus has been developing successful cooperation with Russian space industry for more than 25 years and actively participating in various industrial projects including the following:

-  Launchers

Cooperation in the field of launchers started in the mid-90s by the creation of Europe based joint venture – “Eurockot” GmbH and “Starsem” SAS – both are launch service providers specializing in Russian light (Rockot) and medium (Souyz) launch vehicles.

-  Orbital infrastructure

Airbus DS is the prime contractor for the development and operation of European segment of the International Space Station in close cooperation with Russian companies. It is a joint and successful work of Russian specialists and Airbus DS to create a docking module for the family of ATV cargo ships.

-   Space equipment

In 2001 Airbus Defence and Space started participating in several equipment sales campaigns for Russian satellite prime contractors.

In 2005 – establishing of a joint venture between Airbus Defence and Space and Russian Space Systems - “Synertech” LLC - for the purpose of localization and delivery of reliable satellite equipment for Russian civil space programs.

-   Satellites

In 2008 Airbus DS signed a contract for the delivery of the most powerful by that time telecommunication satellite to the “Russian Satellite Communication Company” followed by the contracts for another three satellites. This milestone significantly straightened cooperation with Russian space industry and resulted in the creation of joint venture with RSC “Energia” – “Energia Satellite technology”.
